RYO Optodist Kit

$
0
0

A full kit to build a compact, easy to use, easy to build and great sounding distortion module which also works as a VCA, giving an LPG style of character to the sound.

RYO kits are very user friendly with detailed build manuals and individually bagged and labelled components.

The Optodist is based on two Advanced Photonix (formerly known as Silonex) optocouplers that gives its characterful overdriven sound and plucky dynamic response to CV, it is equally at home adding a bit of extra crisp to highs and mids or warming up your lows as it is turning a resonant filter into a howling beast or your drums into crushing carnage. The Optodist comes supplied with the SR3 optocoupler. The SR3 gives a tight, snappy CV response.

Please note that due to the nature of the vactrol-style optocouplers, response behaviour may vary between different factory batches.

Also on board is an LED based limiter circuit which limits the signal thru a set of 4 LEDs which can be seen on the panel, for adding a different flavour to your distortion.

The Optodist Kit is a novice-friendly project, it is a low part count, single-PCB build that only requires the most basic experience in PCB soldering and module assembly. Kits comes supplied with PCB, front panel (PCB material), component kit, knobs, power cable and mounting screws. Solder and tools are not supplied.

Width: 6hp

Depth with power cable attached: Less than 35 mm.

Power: +/- 15 mA

RYO Penta Sequencer Kit

Penta

The RYO Penta is a compact 4hp sequencer for eurorack that’s easy to build and low cost, without compromising on our usual quality standards such as buffered output, schmitt triggers on inputs and reverse polarity protection.

It is great for simpler sequencer tasks such as basslines and arpeggios, transposing sequences, gates for envelopes/slews/drums, filter cutoff or anything where a repeating stepped modulation is wanted for adding movement to the sounds you’re making.

Sending a clock to the CLK input will progress the sequence, the Penta has 5 minishaft potentiometers for adjusting each of the 5 steps voltages, ranging from 0 to +5V. A pattern length switch is available for selecting 3, 4 or 5 steps pattern length, this can of course also be set by using an external gate or trig into the RST (Reset) input.

We’ve also added a bonus for the more seasoned builders in the form of +5V GATE output solder pads for each of the sequencers 5 steps, as well as an input pad for HOLD which will lock the sequence to the active step as long as a gate is present. Info on how to perform a homebrew expansion can be found on the last page in the assembly manual.

THIS IS A FULL DIY KIT

Serge_SSG_back_500c

It contains all components required for a complete build, right down to rack screws and power cable. We selected and used the high quality parts as specced by Random*Source.

Most of the components are already soldered! The back board is already fully populated and soldered with SMD components, this is therefore a very quick build that mainly requires soldering of pots, jacks, trimmers, LEDs and headers.

SERGE MODULAR FOR EURORACK – Under licence from Serge Tcherepnin

“Serge Modular” is an analogue modular synthesizer system developed by French composer and electronic designer Serge Tcherepnin in the 1970s at The California Institute of the Arts. Serge’s vision to create a “people’s synthesizers” led to a unique modular music system with an iconic design.

In collaboration with and under licence from Serge Tcherepnin, Random*Source offers a range of Serge modules, combining the original Serge circuits with the advantages of today’s technology. The modules on this page are in Eurorack (3U) format – modules in the classic Serge dimension (“4U” panel height) and the typical banana jacks can be found here.

SERGE SMOOTH & STEPPED GENERATOR (SSG)

The Serge Smooth & Stepped Generator (SSG) is a complex multi-functional module which can be patch programmed to provide various slew and sample functions both for audio and CV signals. It is one of the essential Serge modules.

The Smooth section will place a postitve and negative slew on input voltage transitions for lag effects, voltage controlled portamento and for low frequency filter applications.” In Cycle-mode (cycle jack patched to the input), the Smooth side “will oscillate yielding a voltage controlled triangle wave LFO. A high level into the HOLD input will enable the Smooth Function to be used as a track-and-hold circuit with voltage controlled slew rate.

The Stepped function can be used as a sample-and-hold with voltage controlled slew rate limiting. In Cycle mode, a pulse applied to the Sample input will generate complex staircase waveforms for control voltage applications and for use as audio signals.

The Coupler is an internal comparator which compares the output levels of the Smooth and the Stepped Generators. This output is useful for generating complex control voltages or random voltages.

The Random*Source version of the Smooth & Stepped Generator for Euro is a licensed and authorized adaption of the original Serge design that provides an increased audio range of the Smooth Generator and a bipolar (“hot”) Coupler output in addition to the regular (unipolar) Coupler output.

Now – for the first time ever and licenced by Serge – the SSG is available as DIY (SMT) kit for Euro.

Build documentation: Serge SSG BOM / Build doc

Grant Ritcher’s DIY Wogglebug for eurorack standard! A design which has been greatly popularised by Make Noise, it offers great random modulation, clock and a sound source.

We recalculated component values to make it work properly from +-12V PSU, added clock rate and stepped CV indicator LEDs, developed skiff friendly PCB and cool powder coated panel with bug design printed in two colors. The module doesn’t need wiring and calibration, and it’s comparably easy to build.
The Wogglebug has nostalgic value for us, because in the beginning of 2014 a Wogglebug panel with a bug design was the first Erica Synths project we offered for DIY community and it actually started our company.

Features:

  • 3x random audio rate outputs (Woggle tone, Tone, Ring)
  • 3x random CV outputs (Woggle, Smooth, Stepped)
  • Clock input
  • Clock output
  • Rate CV input

The Black (D) part has been specially manufactured to fit correctly on new style Make Noise modules. The Rogan knobs on Make Noise modules have a round hole for around 7mm of the knob shaft before it turns to a D shaft. This means that other manufacturers D shaft 1900h clones will sit no closer than 7mm off the surface of a Make Noise panel. Note the pointer orientation on these means they are not suitable for all D-Shaft pots, see diagram below, the pointer is on the curved side of the D.

Hexinverter Galilean Moons Kit

$

0

This full DIY kit is everything you need to build the Galilean Moons module.

The Galilean Moons is a feature packed, 18hp, standalone Dual envelope and Dual VCA.

Features

  • Two voltage controlled digital functions (envelopes), each normalised to their own low-distortion linear, DC-coupled VCA (voltage controller amplifier).
  • Each envelope function offers percussive attack/decay, attack/sustain/release or looping  (LFO) mode
  • Each function can each be linear or the classic exponential shape
  • Enables a new noise output, “XOR”, if plugged into a Jupiter Storm behind the panel.  (everything besides the XOR output works with or without a Jupiter Storm!)
  • VCA inputs are normalised to the newly-enabled XOR and main (“I”) output of Jupiter Storm when nothing else is plugged in
  • The envelopes and VCAs can be fully utilised elsewhere in your system by plugging into the corresponding function’s jacks
  • Perfect for synthesizing voltage controlled percussion and other effects!

Module Description

Galilean Moons is a dual amplitude transmutator. It transmutates the amplitude of incoming signals through the use of voltage controlled envelopes and VCAs. It is designed primarily to create voltage controlled percussive sounds when fed with a sound source (in particular, its sister module, Jupiter Storm), but can be used for all sorts of other tasks in your modular system as well as to generate typical synth sounds.

Galilean moons features two moons. Each moon is composed of a voltage controlled attack/decay envelope with its own dedicated low-distortion linear VCA. Each envelope can also act as attack/sustain/release or can go into LFO/automatic looping mode with the flick of
a switch.

Galilean Moons can normalise its VCA inputs to a Jupiter Storm cosmic noise oscillator through a simple expansion cable at the back, but it can also function standalone in any modular system. Of course, the new Jupiter Storm noise output, “XOR”, which is activated by
connecting a Galilean Moons to your Jupiter Storm, will not function when you use Galilean Moons alone in a system. This is the only feature which requires a Jupiter Storm to be connected.

The XOR noise output sounds similar to (but not exactly like) Jupiter Storm with the Noise Core Disruptor is engaged, even when it is not engaged. This allows you to get both flavours of noise from Jupiter Storm simultaneously, making it a lot more versatile. The VCAs and voltage controlled envelopes can each be used on their own in your system when you don’t want to use them the way they are internally linked together. Plugging a signal into any of the respective jacks will break the internal connections and let you use the components on their own. You can use the linear, DC-coupled VCAs to control DC signals in your system when not using the module for its intended use, for example.

Clap Primary Features

Just like the other Mutant Drums, the Clap is a highly versatile module. It is actually a voltage controlled LFSR noise oscillator as well as a powerful percussion synthesis engine!

  • Feature-rich, analogue handclap percussion synthesis reminiscent of the 909
  • Pitch control of noise generator means you can create everything from vanilla 909 claps to broken, chiptune-like alien sounds
  • Doubles as a voltage controlled, Commodore64-sounding noise VCO via the NOISE output and PITCH CV input
  • SUSTAIN control lets you crank up the clap’s sustain and use the module as an abstract synth voice with external inputs!
  • External input allows you to synthesise claps from virtually any sound source you plug in
  • Built in internal reverb effect derived from clap tone
  • Reverb decay forms the decay of the clap sound, and is fully voltage controllable from short reverb “snaps” to long, whooshing tails!
  • You can select between internal and external noise sources as the source for the reverb sound generation, opening up really interesting sounds
  • DRIVE control lets you dial in anything from clean to extremely overdriven sounds
  • Bandpass filter cutoff control

Bassdrum Primary Features

It’s really two modules in one: a totally unique analogue bassdrum and a voltage controlled distortion module! (with the same topology as batteryACID!)

  • analogue bassdrum circuitry capable of vanilla TR-808 sounds
  • built in voltage controlled distortion (batteryACID distortion)
  • distortion accepts external inputs when not being used with kick drum (great for acid synth leads)
  • voltage control of distortion amount
  • voltage control of decay from short kicks to long “ooooooooomphs”
  • voltage control of pitch (approximates v/oct response, but not musically tuned)
  • non-invasive analogue optocouplers used for voltage control, thus, completely vintage sounds can still be had if that’s what you’re after!
  • completely redesigned, hi-fi signal chain spares no expense by replacing cheap transistor amplifiers with low noise opamp equivalents
  • you can dial in super hot, modular level output levels (up to 20Vp-p!)

Hihats Primary Features

While the internal noise generator is based on the metallic noise generator in the 808, you can plug virtually ANY sound source into the EXT input and make all sorts of cool hihats!

  • analogue hihat circuitry capable of synthesising vanilla TR-808 open and closed hihat sounds (simultaneously)
  • external audio input lets you synthesise hihats from virtually any sound source (Jupiter Storm, vcNOIZ, etc.)
  • lo-fidelity original VCAs replaced by OTA-based modern VCAs
  • VCA DRIVE control for each hihat allows you to dial in anything from soft metallic hihats to extremely overdriven, crunchy hihats
  • Exclusive switch lets you select how the two hihats (open/closed) interact with eachother when triggered at the same time
  • cutoff frequency control for internal resonant bandpass filter
  • resonant filter can be switched on/off
  • modular level mutual accent input (0-5V CV)
  • trigger input accepts almost anything as a trigger signal
  • non-invasive analogue optocouplers used for voltage control, thus, completely vintage sounds can still be had if that’s what you’re after!
  • completely redesigned, hi-fi signal chain spares no expense by replacing cheap transistor amplifiers with low noise opamp and OTA equivalents
  • – you can dial in super hot, modular level output levels (up to 20Vp-p!)

‘Analog snare drum synthesis with external input’

There are two versions available

  1. Full DIY Kit – It’s everything you need apart from tool and solder
  2. Partial DIY Kit – PCBs, 13HP eurorack panel and v2164 chip only – All of the surface mount parts are pre-soldered for you!

13HP | 30mm DEEP | +50mA, -50mA

From classic electro snares to warping, alien percussion, the Mutant Snare is a radical departure from the static sounds of the 808!

MIX and DRIVE

  • MIX lets you blend between the SHELL and SNAPPY tones that make up the overall snare drum
  • turn up the DRIVE to get overdriven snare tones with intense harmonics. The purple LED indicates when the snare begins to overdrive
  • like the other Mutant Drums, signal levels have been normalized for modular level input and output (up to 20Vpp)

SHELL synthesizes the drum skins

  • analog bridged-t sinewave oscillators, for those organic-sounding tones we’ve come to love from the 808
  • TONE control blends between the two sinewaves of different frequency
  • SHELL PITCH lets you tune one of the sine waves, to change the pitch of your snare drum

SNAPPY adds some noise to the snare

  • an analog white noise generator feeds the SNAPPY circuit
an external input lets you patch any sound source you like into the SNAPPY generator
  • voltage control of SNAPPY decay
  • SNAPPY feeds into an analog selectable high-pass or band-pass filter
  • voltage control of filter cutoff frequency
  • when nothing is plugged into the cutoff CV input, the SNAPPY envelope OR the adjustable sinewave from the SHELL generator normalize through the CV attenuverter for cutoff CV. A jumper on the back of the module allows you to select which of these internal modulation signals are routed here
  • filter has three resonance settings: classic 808 (low resonance), high resonance, and self oscillation
  • bipolar attenuators (aka: ‘attenuverters’) on CV inputs

‘Intellijel’ Knobs

$

0

These are the exact knobs used on recent Intellijel modules. (Shapeshifter, Metropolis, Atlantis, SpringRay etc.)

They are manufactured by Sifam (in the US distributed by Selco).

Both sizes of knobs are available in 6mm D-Shaft and 6mm T18 shaft types.

The Cap comes separate from the pot body so the orientation of the pointer to the D-shaft can be set at any angle (e.g. you can choose either zero degrees or 180 degrees, which are both typical). The body and cap colours are an identical match to Intellijel colours.

These knobs are not an Intellijel product and are not sourced via Intellijel.
