Dual four-quadrant multiplier with VC Offset.
This unit does an analog multiplication of two signal (A and B) and add an offset (C).

It can act as a dual voltage controlled attenvuerter, dual ring modulator, dual VCA or four channel mixer.

Signal B has a attenuverter that will multiply by -2 to 2 while Offset has a -1 to 1 attenuverter (unity gain).
B and C inputs are normalled to 5v and 10v so A input can be processed just using the potentiometers.

The output of first block is normalized to second one so second output can act as master, to get (A1*B1+C1) + (A2*B2+C2)

Second version of  our Crush delay. An echo-delay unit based on PT2399 that specializes in generating digital garbage and noise!

This unit has been improved greatly from first version and signal routing has been changed to improve performance possibilities.

Crush Delay v2 has two VCAs that will control the amount of signal that is sent to the delay. First input routed to dry/wet and delay and second one directly to delay. With this second input and Send output we can do external feedback routings (See block diagram below)

The biggest improvement has been made to the control of PT2399 itself, applying circuit bending techniques. It has an improved and extended speed control, getting a wider range on Crush area as well as a smoother control, converting this unit into a VC digital garbage generator!

It includes three gate controlled switches that enables three bends to the chip, providing an even greater variety of digital noise, glitches and nasty mayhem!

Of course, crush Delay v2 can be used as an echo-delay unit with around 400 ms clean delay time. and up to 2 seconds of dirty delay.

Features VC feedback with an automatic gain control to keep levels stable at any feedback level.

RYO Optodist Kit

$

A full kit to build a compact, easy to use, easy to build and great sounding distortion module which also works as a VCA, giving an LPG style of character to the sound.

RYO kits are very user friendly with detailed build manuals and individually bagged and labelled components.

The Optodist is based on two Advanced Photonix (formerly known as Silonex) optocouplers that gives its characterful overdriven sound and plucky dynamic response to CV, it is equally at home adding a bit of extra crisp to highs and mids or warming up your lows as it is turning a resonant filter into a howling beast or your drums into crushing carnage. The Optodist comes supplied with the SR3 optocoupler. The SR3 gives a tight, snappy CV response.

Please note that due to the nature of the vactrol-style optocouplers, response behaviour may vary between different factory batches.

Also on board is an LED based limiter circuit which limits the signal thru a set of 4 LEDs which can be seen on the panel, for adding a different flavour to your distortion.

The Optodist Kit is a novice-friendly project, it is a low part count, single-PCB build that only requires the most basic experience in PCB soldering and module assembly. Kits comes supplied with PCB, front panel (PCB material), component kit, knobs, power cable and mounting screws. Solder and tools are not supplied.

Width: 6hp

Depth with power cable attached: Less than 35 mm.

Power: +/- 15 mA

Worng Buff Test – Panel/PCB set

$

This project has surface mount electronics (SMD)

No Parts are provided.

The Bufftest is an extremely accurate buffered mult with a clever little circuit that lets you turn it into a cable tester at the push of a button. It can also be patched as 3x manual gates and, if you can find a use for it, 3x negative gates. Bi-colour LEDs indicate voltage.

To use as a cable tester, patch cable to be tested from any of the top outputs to the bottom input. When the test button is pressed the top LED will light green to indicate a positive voltage output, the bottom LED will indicate the state of the cable being tested. Green indicates the signal is good, red indicates the signal is broken and off indicates signal and ground are shorted.

Following user feedback from the LRMSMSLR the BuffTest has a footprint for a shrouded power header. Reverse power protection is provided by a pair of diodes.

Front panel is PCB material with black soldermask and ENIG gold lettering. Secondary labelling is printed in the copper under the soldermask so it looks embossed. Also lightning bolts.

Worng Passive Mult – DIY Kit

$

The WORNG 3×3 Passive Mult does what it says on the box. A 3×3 mult for anything that doesn’t need the accuracy of a buffered mult. The fourth and seventh jacks are normalled to the mult above, so by leaving them unpatched you can have a 1×7 mult or a 1×3 and 1×5, as your mult needs change.

Why 3hp? Yes you can squeeze a mult into 2hp but using it or any module placed next to it can feel cramped, 3hp gives you a little bit of extra room if you don’t have tiny hands. Worried about having an odd hp gap in your case? They’re so cheap you can buy two!

All you need to build the 3×3 Passive Mult is this set, 9x PJ301M-12 (Thonkiconn) jack sockets, a soldering iron and some solder. It’s that easy.

This is a full DIY which includes everything you need to build the Phoreo. There isn’t a full build doc but we do provide excellent high res photographs and it’s a very simple build. Note the Phoreo requires a 5V power rail in your Eurorack case.

Φορέω is a triple function processor for triggers, gates and clocks. It simultaneously performs pulse width modulation, multiplication and repetition, with individual input, output and CV for each function.

  • Pulse width modulation, as a ratio of the input signal rate, is adjustable from 0 to 100 percent.
  • Multiplication also operates on the input signal rate, multiplying it by a factor from 1 to 16.
  • Repetition generates a burst of triggers, at the rate of the multiplier, with repetitions adjustable from 1 to 16.

Each function has two knobs for manual and CV level, and three jacks for trigger input, CV input and trigger output.

Pulse width modulation carries through to the outputs of the two other functions, and the three trigger inputs are normalled from top to bottom.

When multiply and repeat are combined, Φορέω makes an excellent burst generator, perfect for rolls, flams and fills. The repeater gives precise control over burst length, while the multiplier easily moves from quarter notes, to thirds, to eights, to everything in between and lots more beyond. Go on, give us a snare rush!

Φορέω is also extremely versatile with many utility functions, such as master clock doubling, clock modulation, and for triggering and clocking fast sequences. It even works as a square wave overtone generator with PWM, tracking audio input signals up to 20kHz.

Φορέω perfectly complements Στοιχεῖα, Λόγοι, Κλάσματα and Χρόνος, completing our Euclidean series of trigger processors.

These are the pots that are included with 95% of all Thonk produced kits and specced by many manufacturers. These pots work great with all the 6.35mm round shaft knobs we sell.

These pots are perfect for Music Thing Modular, Synthrotek, RYO, Manhattan Analog, Fonitronik, Frequency Central (FCUK) & HexInverter projects where 9mm pots are specced… but do double check as there are a few exceptions. They are not the first choice for panel-wiring… but we do have Pot Chicklets coming soon to redress that balance!

We love these pots, they feel smooth and precise and have got a strong following for a good reason. One thing that always annoyed us was that annoying little anti-rotation tag that you have to cut or break off, so unlike other distributors we got them manufactured without that tag. Also removing the nut and washer on each pot to build something like a 64 pot sequencer panel can get REALLY tedious, so again unlike other distributors we include the nut and washer bagged separately. It only save 20 seconds per pot maybe, but it adds up!

  • Black No Line – No white line on the top. Encoder style for ‘endless’ rotary pots on digital modules.
  • Black (T18) – For 18 teeth knurled shafts such as Doepfer, Elby etc. These are pure plastic, not brass inserted.
  • Black (D) – For Make Noise, Intellijel, 4ms and many more. These are pure plastic, not brass inserted. Double check your modules actual knob orientation details before purchasing.

The Black (D) part has been specially manufactured to fit correctly on new style Make Noise modules. The Rogan knobs on Make Noise modules have a round hole for around 7mm of the knob shaft before it turns to a D shaft. This means that other manufacturers D shaft 1900h clones will sit no closer than 7mm off the surface of a Make Noise panel. Note the pointer orientation on these means they are not suitable for all D-Shaft pots, see diagram below, the pointer is on the curved side of the D.

SERGE SMOOTH & STEPPED GENERATOR (SSG)

The Serge Smooth & Stepped Generator (SSG) is a complex multi-functional module which can be patch programmed to provide various slew and sample functions both for audio and CV signals. It is one of the essential Serge modules.

The Smooth section will place a postitve and negative slew on input voltage transitions for lag effects, voltage controlled portamento and for low frequency filter applications.” In Cycle-mode (cycle jack patched to the input), the Smooth side “will oscillate yielding a voltage controlled triangle wave LFO. A high level into the HOLD input will enable the Smooth Function to be used as a track-and-hold circuit with voltage controlled slew rate.

The Stepped function can be used as a sample-and-hold with voltage controlled slew rate limiting. In Cycle mode, a pulse applied to the Sample input will generate complex staircase waveforms for control voltage applications and for use as audio signals.

The Coupler is an internal comparator which compares the output levels of the Smooth and the Stepped Generators. This output is useful for generating complex control voltages or random voltages.

The Random*Source version of the Smooth & Stepped Generator for Euro is a licensed and authorized adaption of the original Serge design that provides an increased audio range of the Smooth Generator and a bipolar (“hot”) Coupler output in addition to the regular (unipolar) Coupler output.

Now – for the first time ever and licenced by Serge – the SSG is available as DIY (SMT) kit for Euro.

Build documentation: Serge SSG BOM / Build doc

Some details of the Random*Source Serge SSG module kit:

SERGE DUAL UNIVERSAL SLOPE GENERATOR MK2 (DSG)

DUSG4The Serge Dual Universal Slope Generator (DSG) is probably the most versatile module of a Serge Modular system, incorporating a wide range of functions for both CV and audio. Some functions for which one Slope Generator can be used: VC Transient Envelope Generator, VC LFO, VC Portamento device, Envelope Follower (Detector), VC Pulse Delay (Monostable), Sub-Harmonic Series Generator (Divider), Audio Oscillator with variable waveform symmetry (saw to triangle), Non-Linear Audio Processor (low-fidelity VCF).

From the catalog: “The Universal Slope Generators are unity gain voltage followers with voltage controllable slopes. The range of control is exponential, extremely wide, and the Rise and Fall times can be controlled independently. The range of the Slope Generator is from sub-sonic to high audio frequency. Trigger inputs and trigger outputs allows each section of this dual module to function as a transient (envelope) generator, pulse delay, or in a “cycling mode” (to produce an LFO or clock). Since the Rise and Fall times are voltage controllable, this adds another dimension to the above functions.

The DSG mk2 version has been optimized for audio performance and speed/precision. The top section covers a frequency range up to more than 10kHz. It also offers improved tracking and some temperature compensation.

Now – for the first time and licenced by Serge – the DSG is available as an updated (mk2) version kit for Euro.

Some details of the Random*Source Serge DSG kit:

SERGE VARIABLE SLOPE FILTER (VCFS)

The Serge Extended Variable Slope filter (VCFS) is a unique filter of the Serge system, covering a wide range of sonic character. According to the 1983 Serge catalogue, the “VARIABLE SLOPE VCF (VCFS) allows the amount of filtering to be dynamically controlled, from barely perceptible filtering to highly resonant, sharp cut-offs. With the variable slope control in the center position, the VCFS acts as a typical flat-response VCF, with high, low, and band~pass outputs available simultaneously. The slope of the cut-off is 12 db/octave. As the control is moved toward the maximum position, the resonance of the filter increases, so that the cut-off becomes sharper.”

Now – for the first time and licenced by Serge – the VCFS is available as DIY kit for Euro.

Penta

The RYO Penta is a compact 4hp sequencer for eurorack that’s easy to build and low cost, without compromising on our usual quality standards such as buffered output, schmitt triggers on inputs and reverse polarity protection.

It is great for simpler sequencer tasks such as basslines and arpeggios, transposing sequences, gates for envelopes/slews/drums, filter cutoff or anything where a repeating stepped modulation is wanted for adding movement to the sounds you’re making.

Sending a clock to the CLK input will progress the sequence, the Penta has 5 minishaft potentiometers for adjusting each of the 5 steps voltages, ranging from 0 to +5V. A pattern length switch is available for selecting 3, 4 or 5 steps pattern length, this can of course also be set by using an external gate or trig into the RST (Reset) input.

We’ve also added a bonus for the more seasoned builders in the form of +5V GATE output solder pads for each of the sequencers 5 steps, as well as an input pad for HOLD which will lock the sequence to the active step as long as a gate is present. Info on how to perform a homebrew expansion can be found on the last page in the assembly manual.

PATHS – A Cycling Sequential Switch

A 4:4 cycling sequential switch, featuring simultaneous forward/reverse stepping, hold, reset, and an additional voltage controlled mode based on the same design as our VC Sequencer. Also on board are push buttons for each function enabling you to play and perform the switching with a more human input.

This sequential switch will do all your standard 1>2, 1>3, 1>4 or the other way around with great real-time as well as external voltage controllability.

But its when you start playing around with multiple sources and destinations that things start getting fun and weird! You could for instance shuffle around four different trigger patterns to trigger four different percussive generators for interesting variations, or why not 4 oscillators shuffling between 4 different destinations, panned and processed in various ways?

Whatever your sequential switch application might be, we’re confident the Paths is up to the task!

Just like the VC Sequencer it is clockable by very high clock rates and CVable with full audio range. All for your experimental waveshaping duties.

In CV mode there is two CV inputs. The one that shares the reverse clock input is full wave rectified and the one that shares the forward clock input is half wave rectified. It uses an active rectifier without voltage drop or a dead zone around 0V. The steps toggle switch and the red buttons are inactive in CV mode.

RYO Optodist Kit
